Fit to the Core

Core training can be defined as "any training focused at the central (trunk) region of the body, which includes the abdominal, hips, and back." Others refer to it as "the centralized or fundamental movement patterns from which all other movement patterns are derived."

WEIGHT TRAINING

The selection of the appropriate weight training exercises depends on each and every individual’s limitation and specific goals. For instance, a competitive body builder will do a number of isolated exercises to give mass, symmetry and definition to each and every muscle part. These isolated exercises are equally helpful if you are trying to correct a weakness. For example, if your hamstrings (rear thigh muscles) are underdeveloped, you can use a machine that holds your whole body still while you bend your legs to target your hamstrings.

Some things in life never change like the traffic in EDSA. But fitness does not fall into that category. In the exercise world, there is something new just about everyday in equipment, ergogenic aids, research, classes, gadgets, videos, and websites.

Get In Shape To Surf (Part 1)

As surfers, it’s that time of the year again to thrive on the energy of the ocean! Our phone rings and we meet up with friends in the wee-hours of the morning to start another surf journey. Our mind and bodies become restless at the mere thought of riding a fast-breaking wave. We could already feel the peeling shoulder beginning to curl over us that our senses become totally absorbed in that wet and wild moment. We see, hear, feel, and smell everything—even taste the salt that we swear we are already there just by thinking about it!

Those Fabulous Abs

What is it about abs, anyway? Of course there’s the obvious appeal of a flat midsection. But what I can’t figure out is why all the confusion. So many of us want great abs but only a few are actually able to get them. Is it genetics? Miracle workouts? Fancy diets? Or maybe—just maybe—they’ve been informed about the proper abdominal training and found a strategy that works for them. I’d put my money on the latter.
