You CAN Teach an Old Dog New Tricks: Yoga as a Tool for Life Transformation
Although medical knowledge is constantly being refined, the basis of what we know about getting and staying healthy haven't changed much in recent years. Just about everybody knows you shouldn't smoke, and that you should eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, get some kind of regular exercise, and keep your stress level from spiraling out of control. The difficult part isn't knowing what to do, it's actually doing it!

Are You a Chest or a Belly Breather?
Try this: Rest one hand on your abdomen and one hand on your chest. Watch which part of the body rises and falls when you breathe normally. The part that rises highest indicates the type of breather you are.

The Art of Living: Vipassana Meditation

Everyone seeks peace and harmony, because this is what we lack in our lives. From time to time we all experience agitation, irritation, disharmony. And when we suffer from these miseries, we don't keep them to ourselves; we often distribute them to others as well. Unhappiness permeates the atmosphere around someone who is miserable, and those who come in contact with such a person also become affected. Certainly this is not a skillful way to live.

Desirable Energy Distribution for Athletes
Food is the carrier of nutrients, and to get the nutrients we need, we require the right food exposure. It is this basic fact that is the basis of the most elementary nutritional principle: eat a wide variety of foods. While this may appear to be a simple and easy-to-accomplish principle, most people tend to consume the same few foods over and over again. This occurs because of habit, time limitations, work conditions, and basic food desires and dislikes.
Nutritional Strategies for Sports
Different activities place special metabolic requirements on the muscle system, and these differences alter the nutrition requirements among athletes involved in various types of sports. Sports that require a high level of power and speed over short distances such as baseball, american football, weightlifting, and hammer throw have a high anaerobic component. Athletes in these sports follow training regimens that increase their muscle mass and have unique nutrition requirements for supporting or enlarging this mass. These athletes must consume enough energy so the nutrients, including protein, needed to support this larger mass are available for anabolic use and are not catabolized to meet energy requirements.
Endurance Training for Surfing
The one physical prerequisite for surfing is your ability to recover from fatigue. Every time you paddle out, stroke for a wave, then return to paddle out again, you’re getting a hard workout. At first, you’ll be out of breath and your aching shoulder muscles will cry for a rest. These rest periods become shorter with proper cardiovascular training. The activities that are listed below will do just that.
Fit to the Core
Core training can be defined as "any training focused at the central (trunk) region of the body, which includes the abdominal, hips, and back." Others refer to it as "the centralized or fundamental movement patterns from which all other movement patterns are derived."
Most Effective Exercises (Part 2)
WEIGHT TRAINING
The selection of the appropriate weight training exercises depends on each and every individual’s limitation and specific goals. For instance, a competitive body builder will do a number of isolated exercises to give mass, symmetry and definition to each and every muscle part. These isolated exercises are equally helpful if you are trying to correct a weakness. For example, if your hamstrings (rear thigh muscles) are underdeveloped, you can use a machine that holds your whole body still while you bend your legs to target your hamstrings.

Most Effective Exercises (Part 1)
Some things in life never change like the traffic in EDSA. But fitness does not fall into that category. In the exercise world, there is something new just about everyday in equipment, ergogenic aids, research, classes, gadgets, videos, and websites.
Recommended Dietary Guidelines
What you eat can have a significant effect on your health. The three keys to a healthful diet are balance, variety, and moderation. In general, a healthful diet is simply one that provides a balanced proportion of foods from different food groups, a variety of foods from within the different food groups, and moderation in the consumption of any food. Such a diet should provide us with the nutrients we need to sustain life. In this regard, professional health organizations have developed guidelines to help us obtain the nutrients we need. These are:
Get In Shape To Surf (Part 1)
As surfers, it’s that time of the year again to thrive on the energy of the ocean! Our phone rings and we meet up with friends in the wee-hours of the morning to start another surf journey. Our mind and bodies become restless at the mere thought of riding a fast-breaking wave. We could already feel the peeling shoulder beginning to curl over us that our senses become totally absorbed in that wet and wild moment. We see, hear, feel, and smell everything—even taste the salt that we swear we are already there just by thinking about it!
Those Fabulous Abs
What is it about abs, anyway? Of course there’s the obvious appeal of a flat midsection. But what I can’t figure out is why all the confusion. So many of us want great abs but only a few are actually able to get them. Is it genetics? Miracle workouts? Fancy diets? Or maybe—just maybe—they’ve been informed about the proper abdominal training and found a strategy that works for them. I’d put my money on the latter.
